Université de Nouadhibou

The University of Nouadhibou is Mauritania's newest public university, created in May 2025 in the country's second city and main fishing and mining-export port. It opened for the 2025-2026 academic year in temporary premises (the former IMROP building) with three faculties and a biotechnology institute, and a 50-hectare campus for 5,000 students is planned.

Good to know

• Created by decree no. 066-2025 of 23 May 2025 (draft approved by the Council of Ministers on 7 May 2025).
• Programmes are oriented towards local needs such as energy, mining, hydrocarbons, maritime law, fisheries and migration.
• Temporarily housed in the former headquarters of the Mauritanian Institute of Oceanographic Research and Fisheries (IMROP).
• Announced new campus: about 50 ha with capacity for 5,000 students.
